Joseph "Joey" David O'Brien

Mr. Joseph "Joey" David O'Brien, age 55 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at his home following a sudden illness.  A native of Douglas, Ga., Mr. O’Brien was born, February 7, 1966, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. and Jane Gaskins O’Brien.  A graduate of Atkinson County High School, he continued to volunteer his time and support throughout his life to the school system, especially any academic or athletic programs that involved his boys.  Mr. O’Brien worked several years as a dispatch agent with Universal Trucking Co. and also served many years as co-director of the Pearson Recreational Department.  He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearson, Ga.  Mr. O’Brien enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cheering on the Ga. Bulldogs.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Wife:  Margie O'Brien of Pearson, Ga.

3 Sons:  Taylor O'Brien of Pearson, Ga.

             Zane O'Brien of Siesta Key, Fla.

             Seth O'Brien of Pearson, Ga.

2 Brothers:  Ed O'Brien and wife, Sharron of Pearson, Ga.

                     Mike O'Brien and wife, Galicia of Pearson, Ga.

3 Sisters:  Janet O'Brien of Statesboro, Ga.

                  Lynn Kirby and husband, Ken of Ivey, Ga.

                  Renee Reeves and husband, Pete of Pavo, Ga.

Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Mass for Mr. O'Brien was held, Friday, May 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearson, Ga., with Father Paul O'Connell officiating. Special musical selection included “Dancing in the Sky”. Soft music was provided by organist, Marsha Morris. The interment followed in Holy Family Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Randy Taft, Jeff Hughes, Jeff Ricketson, William Chancey, Ray Lanier and Craig Morris.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
