Rebecca Crosby McKinnon, age 77, of Douglas, GA passed away at home Monday, March 15, 2021 of an extended illness, while surrounded by her loved ones.
Becky was born January 31, 1944 in Axson, GA to the late Lige and Cecelia Crosby. She attended Atkinson County High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Eugene McKinnon. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September of last year. Becky spent many years as Bobby’s helpmate on the family farm. Whether it was cooking for the summer’s tobacco crew, picking bell peppers, or tending the family garden, Becky was always there to do what needed doing.
After retiring from farming, Becky and Bobby spent many years in Yulee and Fernandina Beach FL where Becky enjoyed exploring thrift stores with friends, enjoying time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, baking and cooking for her family. She will be especially remembered for her coconut cakes, sour cream pound cakes, and broccoli casserole.
She is survived by her loving husband Bobby Eugene McKinnon of Douglas; her daughters Selena Youmans of Kennesaw and Phaedra McKinnon of Willacoochee and her son, Kyle McKinnon of Douglas. Becky is also survived by her grandchildren Breanne McKinnon and Lauren Ortiz of Douglas, Jacob and Benjamin Youmans of Kennesaw, and Logan Merritt of Fitzgerald, and two great-grandchildren Hunter and Beau Merritt of Broxton.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. McKinnon were held, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the McKinnon Family Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry McKinnon officiating. Special musical selection included, “The Old Rugged Cross” rendered by those in attendance. The interment followed in the McKinnon Family Cemetery in Willacoochee, Ga.
Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
