Nerle Batten

December 10, 1928 — August 13, 2018

Mr. Nerle Batten, age 89 of Pearson, Ga., passed away, Monday, August 13, 2018 at his home, following a short illness.

A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Batten was born December l0, l928, son of Leaon and Cora Lee Douglas Batten. He retired from the U. S. Air Force after twenty years of service and then went to work with GTE, retiring from that company in l988. He was a faithful and active member of Wesley Chapel Holiness Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lura Batten Relihan.

Wife: Billie Teague Batten of Pearson, Ga.

3 Sons: Norman Batten of Douglas, Ga.

             David Batten and wife, Eugenia of Bowdon, Ga.

             Russell Batten and wife, Margaret of Perry, Fl.

2 Daughters: Sandye Hersey and husband, Kenneth of Douglas, Ga,

                       Nancy Measels and husband, Mark of Douglasville, Ga.

2 Sisters: Margaret Gillespie of Douglas, Ga.

                 Merlene Minix and husband, James of Douglas, Ga.

16 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Batten was held, Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Wesley Chapel Holiness Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga., with Rev. H.P. Murray, Rev. David Rowe and Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Special music included “The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me” rendered by Betty Joiner with Jessica Griffin accompanying on the guitar. “He Whispered Sweet peace” and “He’ll hold to My Hand” were rendered by the” Barnes Family” with Wendy Spikes accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was by Wendy Spikes pianist. The interment followed in Royals Cemetery with full Military Honors rendered by an Honor Guard contingent from Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga.

Serving as active pallbearers were: Jonathan Batten, Josh Relihan, Shane Hersey, Kalen Batten, Donavan Batten and Lee Pittman

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was charge of the arrangements.
