OBITUARY                                                                                                   MRS. NELVA EMILY CARLTON

Mrs. Nelva Emily Courson Carlton, age 97, of Ooltewah, Tn. passed away, Monday, June 10, 2019 at Baptist Village in Waycross, Ga. following an extended illness.  A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Carlton was born, November 17, 1921, daughter of Levi and Lessie Adams Courson. She spent most of her life in Ooltewah, Tn. along with her late husband, K.C. Carlton, and was retired from Collegedale Caseworks. Nelva loved the Braves. During Smoltz, Mattox and Avery’s days, she wrote down all the hits, runs, errors, etc. in a notebook while watching the game, but never went to a game at the stadium. She had recorded Smoltz’s favorite Bible verse in her Bible – John 15:4-5, then in the margin beside those verses, she wrote “Nelva Carlton”. Nelva was a loving, kind, compassionate person and was always cheerful, in spite of the circumstances. She was loved by her surviving family and will be missed. Mrs. Carlton was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents: Levi and Lessie Adams Courson, niece: Fran Cooper, 2 nephews: Bernard Pelz and Dewayne Courson, 3 sisters: Vonice Pelz, Lieunette Cooper and Beadie Swygert, 4 brothers: Ray Courson, Perry Courson, Billy Courson and Ralph Courson.

Survivors include:

2 Nephews:  Ricky Courson and wife, Debra of Pearson, Ga.

7 Nieces:  Frenette Brown and husband, Bob of Bradenton, Fla.

                LaRae Brown and husband, Jim of Dahlonega, Ga.

               Nelva Tanner and husband, Johnny of Pearson, Ga.

                Teresa Smith and husband, Mackie of Pearson, Ga.

Special Friends: Myrtle Hulsey and Barbara Rogers

Funeral Services for Mrs. Carlton were held, Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 4:00 P.M. at Relihan Funeral Home Chapel in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating.  Special musical selections included, “He’s Alive” by Dolly Parton and “It is Well with My Soul” rendered by c.d. The interment followed on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at the Chattanooga National Memorial Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tn.

Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
