OBITUARY MRS. MAVIS DOUGLAS McKINNON Mrs. Mavis Douglas McKinnon, age 82, of Pearson, Ga. passed away Thursday, April 04, 2019 at her home in Pearson, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Coffee County, Mrs. McKinnon was born April 2, l937, daughter of Willie Douglas and Annie Mancil Douglas. She worked in the Atkinson County School System for 35 years as a home economics teacher, assistant principal and principal of Atkinson County High School. She was a homemaker who loved to sew, cook, spend time with her family and was an avid hunter. She attended New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin McKinnon and a sister, Jean Kirkland. Survivors include: Daughter: Tan Downer and husband David of Pearson, Ga. 3 Sons: Archie McKinnon and wife Karen of Douglas, Ga. Mark McKinnon of Pearson, Ga. Myron McKinnon and wife Melissa of Pearson, Ga. Sister: Naomi Story of Brunswick, Ga. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral Services for Mrs. McKinnon were held, Saturday, April 06, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. J.A. Anderson officiating. The Eulogy was given by her daughter, Tan Downer. Special music included “Death Aint No Big Deal” a recording by her late husband, Melvin McKinnon, “Oh What A Savior” and “Hello After Goodbye” were rendered by Michael Johnson and “Hand Full of Weeds” was presented by tape. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was by Michael Johnson, pianist. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Henry Smith, Jr., Dexter Kirkland, Ed O’Brien, Tim Smith, Larry Morris and Jack Aspinwall. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of all the arrangements.
