Laura Jane Powell

January 14, 1930 — November 2, 2019

Mrs. Laura Jane Powell, age 89 of Willacoochee, Ga. passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following a brief illness.

A native of Berrien County, Mrs. Powell was born January 14, l930, daughter of Willie Sapp and Clydia Stanford Sapp. She had lived most of her life in Willacoochee and worked at Nashville Mills as a lab technician for many years. She was a member of the Willacoochee Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed fishing, gospel singing, crossword puzzles and writing poems. She was a charter member of the Willacoochee Church of God where she taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbern Powell, sister, Agnes Dennison, brother, William Sapp, 2 half-sisters, Fannie Mae Rowe and Lillian Benefield and great grandson, Rusty Allen Powell.

Survivors include:

2 Sons: Bremon Powell and wife Virginia Mathis of Pearson, Ga.

            Jonnie Powell and wife Doris B. of Douglas, Ga.

 

5 Grandchildren: Anita Ford and husband Henry of Nashville, Ga.

                             Michael Powell and wife Candy of Pearson, Ga.

                             Bryan Powell of Gainesville, Fl.

                             Eva Powell of Douglas, Ga.

                             Melanie McKinnon of Columbia, S.C.

14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Powell were held Tuesday, November 05, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Willacoochee Church of God with Rev. Lance Taylor, Rev. Britt Peavy, and Rev. Jonathon Smith officiating. Special music included “I Believe” presented by CD and “I Feel Like Traveling On” rendered by members of the Willacoochee Senior Citizens Center. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was by CD. The interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were: Terry Dennison, Billy Dennison, Allen Dennison, Stanley Purvis, Buddy Dennison and Chris Mercer. Honorary pallbearers were Southern Senior Living residents and staff and members of the Willacoochee Senior Citizens Center.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
