Johnnie Carter Herrin

March 11, 1938 — October 10, 2020

Mr. Johnnie Carter Herrin, age 82 of Lakeland, Ga. passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020, at his home, following an extended illness.

 

A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Herrin was born March 11, l938, son of O. C. Herrin and Ione Browning Giddens. He served for many years as Atkinson County Tax Commissioner and later worked for the Ga. Dept, of Labor in Valdosta, Ga. He was a former member of Satilla Lodge F&AM #163 in Pearson and served as chairman of the Lowndes County Advocacy Resource Center. In his younger years he enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beagle dogs. He was a longtime member of Pearson United Methodist Church.

 

Survivors include:

Wife:  Eulaine Herrin of Lakeland, Ga.

 

2 Sons:  Geoffrey Washburn of Arkansas

             Jimmy Herrin of Arkansas

 

Step-Son:  Cary Correll of Ponte Vedra, Fla.

 

2 Daughters:  Beth Waterson of Arkansas

                     Marie Holland of Florida

 

2 Sisters:  Inez Whitley and husband, Lonnie of Nicholls, Ga.

               Sandra Armstrong of Malabar, Fla.

 

3 Grandchildren:  Brandon Correll and wife, Kelly of Lakeland, Ga.

                           Clinton Correll

                           Kandice Heartman

 

2 Great-Grandchildren:  Addison and Alexander Correll

 

Several cousins and other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral Service for Mr. Herrin were held Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Relihan Funeral Home Chapel in Pearson, Ga with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Special music included “If You Could See Me Now” and “Serenaded by Angels” rendered by Diane Johnson with cd accompaniment. The interment followed in Lang Country Church Cemetery.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were, Kyle Lott, Phil Liles, Buddy Browning, Paul Mizell, Jimmy Corbitt and James Corbitt.

 

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
