Mrs. Jean Brantley Gillis., age 88, of Pearson, Ga, went to her eternal home, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Lakeside Senior Living in Douglas, Ga.
A native of Ware County, Mrs. Gillis was born November 13, 1936, daughter of James H. and Verdie Mae Corbett Brantley. She had made her in Pearson for most of her life and was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist church. When she was younger, she worked at a sewing factory and as a para pro in the school system, then later worked for many years in the Atkinson County Clerk of Court Office and the Probate Judge Office. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her daughters, reading and crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dougal Gillis, Sr., daughter-in-law, Judy Gillis, and son-in-law, Edwin Davis.

2 Sons: Dougal Gillis, Jr. of Willacoochee, Ga.
Charlton Gillis and wife Stacy of Pearson, Ga.
2 Daughters: Donna Dismuke and husband Keith of Douglas, Ga,
Melinda Gillis Davis Moyer and husband Bryan of Fernandina Beach, Fl.
Brother: Jimmy Brantley and wife Marcia of Waresboro, Ga.
9 grandchildren: Alisha Morgan (Anthony), Kayla Jaimes (Ray), Adrianna Harrell, Dana Studebaker (Jeffrey), Valarie English (Justin), Dedra Holt, Debra Moore (Corey), Charlie Gillis (Hannah), and Jake Davis (Sheena).
Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gillis were held Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Axson, Ga. with Rev. Jack Chaney and Rev. Edward Mathews officiating. Special musical selections were “One Day at a Time” and “I’ve Got More to go to Heaven For” rendered by soloist, Michelle Fender with Francine Fender accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the prelude and the postlude was by Francine Fender, pianist. The interment followed in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers were Scott Gillis, Lon Gillis, Hampton Giddens, C. V. Gillis, Nipper Gillis, and Lige Gillis. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
