James Lewis "Jimmy" Gillis

January 10, 1943 — January 7, 2021

Mr. James Lewis “Jimmy” Gillis, age 77 of Willacoochee, Ga. passed away Thursday, January 07, 2021 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Ga following an extended illness.

A native of Axson, Ga., Mr. Gillis was born, January 10, 1943, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence James and Nancy Lee Gillis. He made his home in Atkinson County for his entire life.  Even though he retired after 30 years with Wal-Mart, Mr. Gillis went on to work at PCC Airfoils, Inc. in Douglas, Ga., and continued farming.  He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, all the way from the “coast to the creek”.  Mr. Gillis was of Baptist faith and, along with his parents, was preceded in death by his son, James Macom Gillis.

Survivors include:

Wife:  Latrell Gillis of Willacoochee, Ga.

Son:  Michael Gillis and wife Brianna of Willacoochee, Ga.

2 Daughters:  Cindy Dillingham and husband Neil of Willacoochee, Ga.

                        Rhonda Douglas and husband Fred, Jr. of Willacoochee, Ga.

Sister:  Shirley Pope and husband Clifford of Axson, Ga.

6 Grandchildren:  Clayton Dillingham and wife Dorie, Casey Dillingham, Quinton Dillingham, Rebecca Crowder and husband Chris, Rachel Douglas, and Morgan Gillis.

2 Great Grandchildren: Hadley Anne Dillingham and Calliope Quinn Dillingham.

Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Gillis were held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Hebron Church Cemetery with Rev. William Pope officiating. Special musical numbers included, “Amazing Grace” and “Go Rest High on that Mountain” both rendered by cd.  The interment followed in Hebron Church Cemetery.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
