J. David Tanner

November 9, 1939 — December 17, 2024

Jhon David Tanner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at his home in Axson, GA on December 17, 2024. Born on November 9th, 1939, in Nicholls, GA. David was a steadfast presence whose dedication to hard work defined him.

He spent his years loving his wife Glenda Tanner through good times and hard times, always partners. Together they built not only a home but a legacy of love that will resonate with his remaining family for generations. His son Floyd Tanner carries forward this legacy with pride as he remembers the lessons learned from his father’s endurance and firm belief in giving every day your best effort.

David’s heart was softest for his grand babies—Chelsea, Demi, and Shelly. He had a special way of connecting with them through playful banter and affectionate words like “Who loves you doll baby?” which would always elicit a heartfelt: “Papa does!” And indeed, he did—his love was beyond measure.

A businessman and farmer by trade, David’s hands were calloused from years of laboring under the sun yet gentle enough to hold the ones he loved most. He took pride in maintaining a clean-cut yard around their home—a reflection of both his meticulous nature and deep-rooted belief in hard work paying off. To him, doing a good job mattered.

Though David faced life's challenges head-on—with a sharp wit and an even sharper mind—he clung to strength and endurance to his last day, mirroring himself like the hardy cowboys in the western movies he watched nightly.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Glenda Tanner, infant daughter Rena; brothers Joe, Ronnie, and Roy; brothers-in-law; Wilford White and Wayne White. Surviving family includes his son Floyd Tanner and daughter in law Paula; granddaughters Chelsea, Demi, and Shelly Tanner; brother Jimmy; sister Judy; sisters-in-law; Jakey White and Susan White; nieces and nephews; along with countless friends who will miss him dearly.

In remembering Jhon David Tanner’s life—a picture of love for family combined with a devotion towards continuing even when it was hard—we celebrate not just what he accomplished but who he was at heart: A man whose strength remains alive within all those fortunate enough to have known him. Though we grieve our loss today—the memories and life lessons he provided will continue with all those that loved him so dearly. Rest easy sweet Papa.
