Mrs. Imogene Peterson Haskins, age 94 of Pearson, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020, at Berrien Nursing Care in Nashville, Georgia, following an extended illness. Known far and wide for her Southern hospitality and fierce independence, Mrs. Imogene lived a bountiful and amazing life filled with family, friends, and faith. Her straightforward wisdom, unique wit, and giving nature will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her through the years.
A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Haskins was born March 22, 1926, to the late Dennis Paulk Peterson and Myrtle Corbitt Peterson. Mrs. Haskins was a member of Live Oak Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Mr. Arthur Haskins, in 1988, and her daughter, Helen Haskins Hobbs, of Valdosta, earlier this year.
Mrs. Haskins is lovingly survived by one daughter, Hilda Haskins Mercer, and husband Starling, of Axson; son-in-law, Walter Hobbs, of Valdosta; three precious granddaughters, Brandy Barnes, and husband Greg, of Valdosta; Tish Oaks, and husband Justin, of Middleburg, Florida; and Lindsey Lane, and husband Will, of Pearson; and five beautiful great-grandchildren: Drew Barnes, Brody Barnes, Lily Oaks, Mesa Lane, and Memphis Lane.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Haskins were held Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at Live Oak Methodist Church Cemetery with Evangelist Mark Joyce officiating. Special musical selections included “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” rendered a capella by Lindsey Lane, and “Victory in Jesus” lead by Lindsey Lane and accompanied by those gathered to honor Mrs. Haskins. A special message was also written and spoken by Lily Oaks in memory of her amazing Nanny Imogene.
Serving as active pallbearers were: Cleeve Carter, Trevor Carter, Stanley Clement, Sr., James Gore, Roy Haskins, and David Moore.
The family has asked that any voluntary memorial contributions be made to Live Oak Methodist Church, P. O. Box 162, Pearson, GA 31642. Any contributions are greatly appreciated by the family and church in Mrs. Haskins’ memory.
