Hubert Lee Bennett was born in Ware County on February 10, 1936. He was the second child of seven born to the late Ruby Arnold Lampkin and Grady Bennett. He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife, Maxie Minchew Bennett died in 2016 after 63 years of marriage. Hubert was also preceded in death by his older brother, Hurshel Bennett, and a younger sister, Elnita Bennett Davison. Hubert passed away peacefully at Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia on Friday, April 19, 2024. Hubert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Hubert is survived by his sons and daughter in law, Kent and Lori Lee Bennett and Jerry Bennett. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Max Bennett, Morgan Bennett, and Lillian Bennett.

Hubert is survived by his younger brothers, Ferrell Bennett (Colleen, deceased) and Johnny (Gail) Bennett, his younger sisters, Juanita (Wallace) Pittman and Linda (Richard) Swain. He is also survived by his sisters in law, Margaret Bennett and Reecie Tomlinson and brother in law, Deryl Davison and half siblings, Grady Bennett, Jr., (Faith), Betty Sue Bennett Joyce, (James), and Dale Bennett. Hubert also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Hubert grew up in Millwood, Georgia during the Depression and had to drop out of school after the 10th grade in order to help take care of his mother and his siblings. After Hubert and Maxie got married, Hubert served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in France and drove heavy equipment.

After returning home, Hubert and Maxie made their home and raised their family in Clyattville, Georgia. Hubert drove long distance trucks for several years and then began working at the paper mill in machinery maintenance. Hubert went back to school and received his GED and other certificates from Valdosta Technical School. He retired from the paper mill in 1997. Hubert’s dream was to move back to Millwood to the land where he was raised. After retirement, he and Maxie made that dream a reality by building their home on their land with their own hands and with the help of family and friends. Due to health complications, Hubert moved to Baptist Village in 2021.

The family is grateful for the care and attention given by the caregivers and healthcare providers at Baptist Village.
