Ms. Erni Jean Chancey age 75, of Pearson, Ga. passed away Monday, August 05, 2019 at Waycross Health and Rehab. Center in Waycross, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Atkinson County, Erni Jean was born July 7, l944, daughter of the late Earnest and Myrtice Griffis Chancey. Although she was physically challenged her entire life, she never let that deter her from everyday activities. She was a l965 graduate of Atkinson County High School and operated a small Christian Bookstore from her home for many years. If you were uptown, you would likely run into her at the post office, bank or on Sunday’s, on the way to church. She was a member of Elbethel Church in Pearson. Survivors include: Several cousins and other relatives survive. Special friend: Laurelle Gillis of Pearson, Ga. Graveside funeral services for Ms. Chancey were held on Thursday, August 08, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. William Pope and Sister Catherine Tanner officiating. A poem written by Erni Jean “The Legacy” was read by Mrs. Laurelle Gillis and a special tribute to Erni Jean was given by Debbie Smith, one of her caregivers at Waycross Health and Rehab. Special music was “Celebrate me Home” rendered by Harriet Youngblood. The interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Brady Roberts, Bailey Roberts, Derryl Lee, Harvey Allen Spikes, Lon Gillis and James Gore, Jr.. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Roberts and Derrell Youngblood. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements.
