Mrs. Mary Effie Sirmans Courson, age 84 of Douglas, Ga., formerly of Pearson, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Courson was born June 25, 1925 daughter of John Sidney and Mary Arizona Corbitt White. She was a homemaker and seamstress at Federal Corset Co. in Douglas, Ga. Mrs. Courson was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Grady Bonman Sirmans, and Fred Courson. Also 4 brothers and 7 sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include: 4 Sons: James Edward Sirmans and wife Georgia Ann of Augusta, Ga. Wayne Sirmans and wife Diane of Douglas, Ga. Donald Lee Sirmans and wife Maliea of Jesup, Ga. Roy Nelson Sirmans and friend Lisa Cooler of Dublin, Ga. 4 Daughters: Laverne Giddens and husband William Earl of Pearson, Ga. Evelyn Folsom and husband William D. of Douglas, Ga. Ann Louise Folds and husband Wyman of Adel, Ga. Janice Corbitt and friend Jerry Nettles of Pearson, Ga. 2 Sisters-in-Law: Eunice White of Clarksville, Tenn. Sue White of Alabama 20 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Courson was held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pearson, Ga. with Bishop Steve Sirmans, Bro. Stacy Sirmans, and Bro. C.F. Sirmans officiating. Special musical selections included, "In His Arms I'm Not Afraid", "Beautiful Altar of Prayer", and "God Sent an Angel" rendered by The Sweetwater Creek Singers. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery with dedication of the grave given by Bro. Stacy Sirmans. Serving as active pallbearers were: Grandsons; Jerome Roberts, Anthony Folsom, Troy Sirmans, Bucky Akins, Daren Folsom, Derek Folsom, Deane Folsom, Donald C. Sirmans, James E. Sirmans, James (Big Boy) Sirmans, Nelson Corbitt, Wesley (Homer) Corbitt, and Levi Sirmans.
