Horace Douglas McKinnon

Mr. Douglas McKinnon age 74 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness. Born September 26, 1935 in Coffee County, Mr. McKinnon was the son of Horace and Lannie Douglas McKinnon. He was a retired farmer and had also worked at Ga. Pacific for twenty years. He was previously employed with Atkinson County Solid Waste Management Authority until poor health forced his retirement. He was of the Mormon Faith and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Pearson Ward. His wife, Shelba Dean Mizell McKinnon, a daughter, Lawana Michelle McKinnon, a son Jesse Aaron McKinnon and sister Novara McKinnon Vickers, preceded him in death. Survivors include: Son: Dougie McKinnon and wife Janice of Pearson, Ga. Daughter: Deana McKinnon Thurston of Douglas, Ga. Sister: Judy Russ and husband Harry of Pearson, Ga. Fiancée': Maxine Smith of Pearson, Ga. Brother in Law: Elle Vickers of Douglas, Ga. 4 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. McKinnon were held at 11:00 A. M. Friday, November 27, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pearson, Ga. with Bishop Jamie James, Bishop Steve Sirmans and Rev. Casey Wright officiating. Special musical selections "Love At Home" and "Because I Have Been Given Much" were rendered by the attending congregation with Em'Starr Cribbs accompanying at the piano. Em'Starr Cribbs pianist played soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens with the dedication of the grave given by Elder Roy Lee Hardee. Serving as active pallbearers were: Jeremy Russ, Charlie Russ, Jerry Davis, George Davis, David Knight and Jesse Wayne Mizell. Honorary pallbeares were Pearson Ward High Priest Group.
