Curtis Marlow Corbitt

Rev. Curtis M. Corbitt age 85 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Friday, March l9, 20l0 at Shady Acres Convalescent Center in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Atkinson County, Rev. Corbitt was born December 14, 1924 son of Hobson G. (Son) and Lora Fussell Corbitt. He was a retired car salesman having worked for forty years at the Ford dealership in Douglas, Ga.. He was an active member of the Atkinson County Ministerial Association and had also been involved in the Sunday Morning Men's Fellowship Breakfast for many years. He was a longtime member of Elbethel Church and served as Assistant Pastor from l983 to l996 and as Pastor from November l996 until his death. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. His wife Mary Alice Taft Corbitt preceded him in death. Survivors include: 2 Sons: Marlow Corbitt and wife Donna of Axson, Ga. Ashley Corbitt and wife Diane of Atlanta, Ga. 2 Sisters: Beatrice Pounds of Deland, Fl. Cora Dasher of Albany, Ga. 5 Grandchildren: Kristy Shaw and husband Jason of Valdosta, Ga. Mark Corbitt of Valdosta, Ga.and fiancée Miranda White Rachael Horton and husband Matthew of Athens, Ga. Taylor Corbitt of Chicago, Illinois Nathan Corbitt of Atlanta, Ga. 6 Great-Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Rev. Corbitt were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Elbethel Church in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Marvin Goodman, Mrs. Catherine Tanner and Mrs. Barbara Wall officiating. Special musical selections included "Beulah Land" and "Serenaded By Angels" rendered by soloist Pam Huffstuttler with taped accompaniment. Catherine Tanner pianist provided soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens. Serving as active pallbearers were: Danny Henderson, Lee Corbitt, Bobby Dasher, Vince Paulk, Tony Goodman, Steve Cain and Daniel Corbitt. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Atkinson County Ministerial Association. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
