Mrs. Bertha Nell Wood Corbitt age 81 of Pearson, Ga. passed away at her residence on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 following an extended illness. Born November 21, 1928 in Douglas, Ga., Mrs. Corbitt was the daughter of Simon and Leola McDaniel Wood. She had made her home in Pearson for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Springhead United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Mr. M C Corbitt Jr., 2 Son in Laws, Dale Chancey and Jonathan Tanner, and 2 Brothers and 2 Sisters Survivors include: 1 Son: Martin Corbitt and wife Barbara of Hazlehurst, Ga. 3 Daughters: Peggy Hall and husband Randall of Baxley, Ga. Kathy Chancey of Hazlehurst, Ga. Kay Tanner of Axson, Ga. 3 Sisters: Mae Ola Dawson and husband Will of Hazlehurst, Ga. Dolly Smith of Brunswick, Ga. Emma Gay Dupree of Palatka, Fl. 2 Sisters in Law: Martha Chancey ande husband Glenn of Alapaha, Ga. Mae Wood of Palatka, Fl. 2 Brothers in Law: Johnny Corbett of Rome, Ga. Newsome Corbett of Macon, Ga. 7 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, and several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Mrs. Corbitt were held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Springhead United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregory Pope officiating. The eulogy was given by granddaughter, Jana Kay Tanner. Special musical selections included" In The Garden" renderd by Amy Johns, "Near The Cross" and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" rendered by the attending congregation, with Amy Johns accompanying on the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was played by Amy Johns pianist. The interment followed in the Springhead Cemetery with "Amazing Grace" rendered acapella by Amy Johns at the gravesite. Serving as active pallbearers were Chris Corbitt, Grant Corbitt, Tom Tanner, Kyle Cook, Brian Schotsch, Jack Corbitt, and Mitchel Carter. Honorary pallbearers were Jean Perkins, Marie Corbitt, Dr. Burt and office staff, and the Altamaha Homecare staff. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements
