John C. Williams

Mr. John Calvin Williams, longtime Pearson resident passed away late Monday evening, April 18, 2011 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following a long illness. A native of Sumter County, Mr. Williams was born April 15, 1927, near Andersonville, Georgia. He was the son of John C. Williams, Sr., and Foletta K. Presley. He was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College, the University of Georgia Pharmacy School, and a U. S. Navy veteran. He practiced pharmacy briefly in Valdosta and Douglas before starting Williams Pharmacy in Pearson. He was an avid fan of the University of Georgia football. He had been a commercial honey producer and was a commercial blueberry producer. He was well known as a chess coach. He was a devoted husband, and a much-loved father and father-in-law. Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Williams of Pearson, their 4 children and families, 5 grandchildren, 3 nieces and 7 nephews, and a sister-in-law and her husband. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 22, at the First Baptist Church in Pearson with Rev. Jerry Worzella officiating. The interment was in Sweetwater Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Travis Ursrey, Wade Brown, Harry Mullis, William White, Mike Wood, and Alan Wood. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
