Ms. Joan Larita Vickers, age 51, of Douglas, Georgia passed away Monday, February 09, 2015 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Georgia following an extended illness. Ms. Vickers was born July l7, l963 in Honolulu, Hawaii to George Elle Vickers and the late Joan Novara McKinnon Vickers. She had made her home in Atkinson and Coffee Counties for most of her life. For the past thirteen years she had been working as the Editor for the Atkinson County Citizen until poor health forced her retirement. She was a member of New Harmony Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include: Daughter: Arabi Vickers of Douglas, GA. Father: George Elle Vickers of Douglas, GA. Sister: Christina Moore of Jackson, MI. Grandson: Bryce Pena Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Ms. Vickers were held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at New Harmony Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Don Harper officiating. Special musical selections included "Amazing Grace My Chains Are Gone", "Jesus Loves Me" and "It is Well with My Soul" rendered by the attending congregation with Deborah Copeland accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude was played by Deborah Copeland pianist. The interment followed in Harmony Grove Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Jeremy Russ, Charlie Russ, Dakota Russ, Kurt Russ, Robin Nugent and Chad Carver.
