Ms. Christine Summerlin Bowen, age 73, of Fitzgerald, GA. formerly of Pearson, GA., passed away Tuesday, April 07, 2015 at her home in Fitzgerald, GA. following an extended illness. A native of Atkinson County, Ga., Mrs. Bowen was born, February 4, 1942, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Kizzie Lewis Summerlin. She retired from Cady Bag Company after 15 years there as a machine operator. Mrs. Bowen was a member of Old Prospect Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Ga. Survivors include: Husband: Donald Bowen of Fitzgerald, GA. 1 Daughter: Rita Mitchell and husband Charles of Valley Head, AL. 2 Sons: Joe Bowen of Pearson, GA. Don Bowen of Alma, GA. 4 Brothers: Hardy Summerlin and wife Laverne of Pearson, GA. Jimmy Summerlin and wife Debbie of Mason, TN. Verlin Summerlin and wife Nellie of Mason, TN. Roger Summerlin of Tifton, GA. Sister: Emma Kiefer and husband Emory of Valdosta, GA. 3 Grandchildren: Christopher Mitchell of Louisville, KY. Candace Mitchell of St. Paul, MN. Taylor Mitchell of Valley Head, AL. Several Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Bowen were held Thursday, April 09, 2015 at 11:00 A. M. at New Bethel Church with Rev. Christopher Mitchell and Rev. J.A. Anderson officiating. Special musical selections included, "If You Only Knew" rendered by Laverne Summerlin with c.d. accompaniment, "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You" rendered by c.d., and "I'll Meet You by the River" rendered by the congregation with Margaret Williams at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was rendered by Margaret Williams, pianist. The interment followed in New Bethel Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Joe Bowen, Don Bowen, Charles Mitchell, Mac Summerlin, Keith Bazemore and Robbie Dale Bazemore.
