Mrs. Catherine Taft, age 77 of Axson, Ga. passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, Ga. after an extended illness. A native of Cullman, Al., Mrs. Taft was born November 28, l938 daughter of Estelle Vinson Tracy. She had made her home in Atkinson County for most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Axson Church of God of Prophecy and was preceded in death by two sons, William Nathaniel Taft and Robert Walter Taft. Survivors include: Husband: Johnny E. Taft of Axson, Ga. Daughter: Shermilee Taylor and husband Ben of Axson, Ga. 3 Sons: John Taft and wife Teresa of Axson, Ga. Henry Taft and wife Hilaria of Axson, Ga. Colonel Dale Taft and wife Carrol of Axson, Ga. Special Cousin: Charles Bo Hamon of TyTy, Ga. 18 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Taft were held Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Axson Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Chris Boyd and Rev. Newton Cox officiating. Special musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “Serenaded by Angels” rendered by Newton Cox (Guitar) and Loretta Boyd (Keyboards). Prelude and Postlude music was presented by Loretta Boyd (keyboards). The interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Ryan Taft, Casey Taft, Devin Taft, Dale Taft, Craig Odum and Allan Diaz. Honorary pallbearers were: Jonathon Sturgis, Aldo Taft, Emanuel Taft, Matt Gurley, Larry Burch, Marvin McDaniel and Damond Wood. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
