S.A. Summerlin

February 6, 1940 — June 8, 2016

Mr. S.A. Summerlin, age 76 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Wednesday, June 08, 2016 at his home in Pearson, Ga. after an extended illness.   A native of Pearson, Ga., Mr. Summerlin was born February 6, l940, son of Willie and Lucy Guthrie Summerlin. He was a l958 graduate of Atkinson County High School.  He worked various jobs before settling on carpentry.  He became a master carpenter and worked until a few years ago until his health forced him to retire.  He was a member of Pearson United Methodist Church.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jearldean Bryant Summerlin and brothers, Julian and W. R. Summerlin.   Survivors include: 3 Sons: Mike Summerlin and wife Kim of Pearson, Ga.               Denny Summerlin and wife Lisa of Columbus, Ga.             Sol Summerlin and wife Karen of Barney, Ga.   2 Sisters: Opel Hughes of Bamberg, S.C.                  Nell Faulk of Palatka, Fl. 8 Grandchildren: Davis Summerlin, Amari Summerlin, Autumn Summerlin, Luke Kelly, Jacob Kelly, John Mark Kelly, Isabella Summerlin, and Solomon Summerlin.   Several Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive.    Funeral services for Mr. Summerlin were held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pearson United Methodist Church with Rev. Evelyn Duvall officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone” and “The Sun’s Coming Up” rendered by Tammy Wood and John Lang with John accompanying at the piano.  Soft Prelude and Postlude music was played by John Lang, pianist. The interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery.   Serving as active pallbearers were: Davis Summerlin, Michael Smith, D. Q. Pittman, Jerry White, Kyle Lott and Dewain Stone. Honorary pallbearers were:  Herman Tucker, Johnny Giddens, Cleveland Register, Leon Thigpen, Jr., Jesse Tanner and the Atkinson County High School Class of l958.   The family encourages that memorials be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth.
