James Franklin Delk

January 6, 1934 — June 13, 2016

Mr. James Franklin Delk, age 82 of Axson, Ga. passed away Monday, June 03, 2016 at his home in Axson, Ga. after an extended illness.   Born January 6, l934, in Axson, Ga., Mr. Delk was the son of Vera White Carter and Seabern Lewis Delk. He farmed for most of his life until poor health forced him to retire.  He had a passion for flying, especially ultralight airplanes which he built and flew for many years.   He attended the Axson United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Delk and Danny Delk.   Survivors include: Wife: Ilee Simmons Delk of Axson, Ga.   2 Daughters: Nancy L. Corbitt and husband Steve of Willacoochee, Ga.                        Sheila D. Cribb and husband Terry of Willacoochee, Ga.   Son: Harley S. (Peanut) Delk and fiancée Cathy of Axson, Ga. Sister: Mary Margaret Summerlin of Axson, Ga.   8 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren, 1 Nephew and several other relatives also survive.   Funeral services for Mr. Delk were held Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Chaney officiating. Special music included “Blessings” rendered by Tonya Prescott and Sydney Adams with cd accompaniment and “Amazing Grace” presented by the attending congregation with Patricia Corbitt accompanying on the piano.  Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was played by Patricia Corbitt pianist. The interment followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery.   Serving as active pallbearers were: Brandon Prescott, David Prescott, Danny Delk, Chad Woods, Eric Huff and Keith Disharoom. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.   Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
