Mrs. Annie Laura Spikes, age 63 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at her home in Pearson, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Jacksonville, Fl., Mrs. Spikes was born October 22, l952, daughter of Napoleon Broward Hurlbert, Sr. and Thelma Lucy Allen Hurlbert. She lived for most of life in Atkinson County. She had previously worked as a security guard for Cady Bag Company and had also worked for the Atkinson County School System. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gospel music and attending events at the Pearson Senior Citizens Center. She attended Sunnyside, Antioch and Ozias Baptist Churches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Spikes, 3 brothers, Napoleon Hurlbert, Jr., Edgar Hurlbert, Sr., Danny Hurlbert and a sister, Sarah Lila Pittman. Survivors include: 3 Sisters: Thelma Loretta Brunner of Pearson, Ga. Minnie Stone and husband Eddie of Pearson, Ga. Margaret “Cill” Stevens and husband Larry of Nashville, Ga. Special Niece: Marenna Carducci of Pearson, Ga. Several Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Spikes were held Sunday, August 21, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Relihan Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Spikes officiating. Special musical selections, “Just a Rose will Do”, “Go Rest High on that Mountain”, “Go Close the Window”, “Gone Home” and “Amazing Grace My Chains are Broken” were presented by cd. Prelude and Postlude music “My Bags Are Packed” and “The Place I’ve Never Been” were by cd. The interment followed in the Sunnyside Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Toby Roberts, Eddie Stone, Zack Hutchinson, Bo Spikes, Gary Spikes, Steve Hurlbert, Jr., Derrick Newcomb and Rodney Crews. Honorary Pallbearers were: Edgar Brunner, Russell Hurlbert, James Murray, Tony Stevens, Michael Martin and John Brunner. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
