Mrs. Doris Fender Douglas, age 77 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at her home in Pearson, Ga. following an extended illness. Mrs. Douglas was born June 1, l939 in Willacoochee, Ga., daughter of Laster and Marie Gurganas Fender. Mrs. Douglas was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She also loved cooking, sewing, quilting and always looked forward to the children and grandchildren coming over so she could prepare a meal for them. She was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Robert, Donald and Laster, Jr. Fender and a sister, Dorothy Fender Turner. Survivors include: Husband: Willis Ray Douglas of Pearson, Ga. Son: Ray Douglas and wife Donna of Pearson, Ga. 2 Daughters: Wanda Spikes and husband Jimmy of Homerville, Ga. Linda Youngblood and husband Sim of Pearson, Ga. Brother: Kenneth Fender of Lakeland, Ga. 5 Grandchildren: Mathew Spikes and wife Nicole, Jason Spikes, Kaleb Youngblood, Natalie Douglas, and Nathan Douglas. 2 Great Grandchildren: Laneston and Carson Hendricks Several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Douglas were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 27, 20l6 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Spikes, Rev. Sim Youngblood, and Rev. J.A. Anderson officiating. Special musical selections,” Take My Had Precious Lord” and “When I Travel My Last Mile” were rendered acapalla by soloist Bonnie Corbitt. “Leave Me Alone” was rendered by Caleb Youngblood and Tim Meeks with Kaleb accompanying on the piano. Prelude music was played by Caleb Youngblood pianist and Postlude music by Ashley Whitley guitarist. The interment followed in the New Bethel Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Mathew Spikes, Jason Spikes, Caleb Youngblood, Laneston Hendricks, Steve Sirmans and Raymond Purvis. Honorary Pallbearers were: Brenda Jones, Stella Roberts and Hospice Care Workers Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements.
