Mrs. Maxie Lee Minchew Bennett, age 84 of Millwood, Ga. passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. after an extended illness. Mrs. Bennett was born in the Bickley community of Ware County on July 11, l932, daughter of Clarence and Ruth White Minchew. She and her husband lived in Clyattville near Valdosta, Ga. for some 50 years before moving back to Millwood eleven years ago. She was retired from the Lowndes Co. Board of Education Food Service Dept. and was also a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pearson Ward. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Boyette. Survivors include: Husband of 63 years Hubert L. Bennett of Millwood, Ga. 2 Sons: Kent Bennett and wife Lori Lee of LaGrange, Ga. Jerry Bennett of Castle Rock, Co. Sister: Reecie Tomlinson of Valdosta, Ga. 3 Grandchildren: Max Bennett, Morgan Bennett, and Lillian Bennett Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Bennett were held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pearson, Ga. with Bishop Tim Cecil, Bishop Steve Sirmans and Bishop Thurston Spivey officiating. Special musical selections included “Amazing Grace” rendered by the attending congregation with Angie Odum leading and Ellen Hardee accompanying at the piano and “It is Well with my Soul” rendered by soloist Angie Odum accompanied by tape. Soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude was by Ellen Hardee, pianist. The internment followed in the Utah Cemetery in Axson, Ga. with the dedication of the grave by Brother Ferrell Bennett Serving as active pallbearers were: Shawn Bennett, Don Porter, Lyn Boyette, Greg Bennett, Terry Davison, Mike Davison and Ben Swain. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
