Mr. Lee Wade Swails, age 73 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Southern Senior Living Personal Care Home in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Coffee County, Mr. Swails was born February 6, l943 son of Lee O. and Evelyn Gourley Swails. He lived in Atkinson County for most of his life and worked for many years as the Tax Appraiser for Atkinson County. He later worked at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Douglas, Ga. before retiring. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for square dancing, grinding corn for grits and old antiques. He was a member of Satilla Masonic Lodge F&AM 163 and was also a U. S. Army Veteran. He attended Sunnyside Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Larry, Johnny and Tommy Swails. Survivors include: Son: Michael Swails and wife Christy of Pearson, Ga. Daughter: Amanda Deems and husband Mitchell of Pearson, Ga. 4 Grandchildren: Henry Deems, William Deems, Stetson Swails, and Micaleb Swails. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral Services for Mr. Swails were held Thursday, December 01, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Stokesville Baptist Church, with Rev. Teddy Burch officiating. Special music included “I’ll Fly Away” and “Amazing Grace” rendered by the attending congregation with Harriet Youngblood accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was by Harriet Youngblood pianist. The interment followed in the Stokesville Church Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Johnny Tanner, Allen Peacock, Ricky Barrett, Dwight Guthrie, Winston Gourley, and Henry Smith, Jr. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
