Mrs. Vicki Griffis Phillips, age 74 of Axson, Ga. passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at her home in Axson, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Axson, Ga., Mrs. Phillips was born October 25, l942, daughter of Elbert and Ruby Vickers Griffis. She had lived in Atkinson County for most of her life and retired in l996 from the Atkinson Count Board of Education after teaching for 27 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Phillips, 2 grandsons, Russell Roberts and Micah Roberts, Mother who raised her, Corene Griffis Upton, brother, Donald Gillis, and 2 step brothers, Thomas Upton and William “Bill” Upton. Survivors include: 2 Daughters: Leslie Roberts and husband Ray of Axson, Ga. Cathy Lee and husband Derryl of Axson, Ga. Step-Sister: Elizabeth Bennett of Atlanta, Ga. 4 Grandchildren: Brady Roberts, Bailey Roberts, Lerah Roberts, and Leah Roberts. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Phillips were held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Axson, Ga. with Mrs. Phillips son in law, Mr. Ray Roberts officiating. Special music was, “Amazing Grace” rendered by all attending the service. The interment followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Brody Roberts, Bailey Roberts, Lewis Harrell, William Pope, Damon Mizell, and Mike Spivey. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Delbert Davis, Phil Murray, and Bobby Mullis. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
