Mr. George F. Spivey, age 80 of Axson, Ga. passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness. A native of Jeff Davis county, Mr. Spivey was born December 6, l936, son of Hardy and Ruby Stapleton Spivey. He had made his home in Atkinson County for most of his life and was a retired logger with Dell-Cook Lumber Company and a farmer and cattle producer in the Axson area. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, member of American Legion Post #173 in Pearson, the Cattleman’s Assn. and the Georgia Sheriffs Assn. In his younger years, he loved to bird hunt and fish. He had a strong work ethic and love for his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pearson, attended Sweetwater Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Clay Spivey. Survivors include: Wife of 53 years: Yvonne Spell Spivey of Axson, Ga. Sister: Shirley Bennett and husband Dudley of Pearson, Ga. 3 Brothers: Leon Spivey of Pearson, Ga. Lewis Spivey and wife Laveritt of Pearson, Ga. Harvey Spivey and wife June of Pearson, Ga. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral Services for Mr. Spivey were held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Relihan Funeral Home Chapel in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Edward Mathews and Rev. Hardy Crosby officiating. Special music included “In His Arms I’m Not Afraid” and What a Day That Will Be” rendered by Glenda Lang and D. Q. Pittman with D. Q. accompanying on the guitar. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was by cd music. The interment followed in the Union Hill Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: James Gore, Locky Joyner, Steve Adams, Mackie Smith, Plenn Moore, Kenny Vinning, Glen Walker, and Phil Murray. All attending the service were honorary pallbearers. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
