Mr. Roy Wilkerson, age 70, of Willacoochee, Ga. passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga following an extended illness. A native of Coffee County Ga., Mr. Wilkerson was born June 10, l947, son of Joseph and Vyure Ellis Wilkerson. He was retired from the Ga. Dept. of transportation as an equipment operator. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was wounded. His decorations included the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device and Combat Infantryman Badge. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and also enjoyed hunting, gardening and working on his tractor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Willacoochee, Ga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, J. R., Lamar and Roger Wilkerson and a sister Joan Kirkland. Survivors include: 2 Sons: Shawn Wilkerson of Douglas, Ga. Lee Wilkerson of Willacoochee, Ga. 2 Brothers: Jack Wilkerson of Nashville, Ga. Mose Wilkerson of Vero Beach, Fl. 4 Sisters: Ester Sue and Husband Jerry of Willacoochee, Ga. Omeree Courson of West Green, Ga. Avienell Merchant of Willacoochee, Ga. Wanda Gail Stone and husband Jr. of Pearson, Ga. Grandchild: Shea Wilkerson and fiancé Gage Corbitt of Pearson, Ga. Great Grandchild: Jace Corbitt Several nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Wilkerson were held at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at The Mora Baptist Church. with Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Special music was “Clinging to a Saving Hand”, “When I Get Where I’m Going” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain” presented by cd. Prelude and Postlude music was by cd. The interment followed in the Mora Church Cemetery with full Military Honors rendered by an Honor Guard contingent from Ft. Stewart, Ga. Serving as active pallbearers were: John Lindsey, Dan Wise, Cody Wise, Billy Courson, Kevin Lott and Brandon Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers were: Freddie Wilkerson Shirley Lott, Ralph Lott, Johnny McCrea and Ronnie Scott. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
