Mr. Gregory Claude Chapman, age 61 of Ashburn, Ga. formerly of Willacoochee, Ga. passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Al. following an extended illness. Greg was born December 6, l955 in Jacksonville, Fl.. He grew up in Willacoochee, Ga. and attended Atkinson County High School where he was a member of the band. His favorites subjects were typing and French. After graduation from high school he worked with McCranie Preserving Inc. and McCranie Farms. He later operated Carter’s Fried Chicken in Lakeland, Ga. for several years. He also worked with his wife in the Flower Shop in Tifton, Ga. prior to moving to Ashburn, Ga. where he worked at Carter’s Fried Chicken in Ashburn. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Willacoochee, Ga.. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Janice Chapman and his stepfather, George F. McCranie III. Survivors include: Mother: Imogene Purvis McCranie of Willacoochee, Ga. 2 Brothers: Steve Chapman and wife Marie of Ashburn, Ga. George McCranie IV and wife Danielle of Willacoochee, Ga. Sister: Katherine McCranie of Willacoochee, Ga. Nieces: Jennifer Chalon and Madge McCranie, Nephews, Steve Chapman, Jr., Duane Chapman, and Ben Chapman. Several other relatives also survive. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Chapman were held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Willacoochee City Cemetery with Rev. John Jacobs officiating. Special music included “Give Me Back My Bullets by Lynyrd Skynyrd” presented by cd and “Amazing Grace” rendered by all attending the service. The interment followed in theWillacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Steve Chapman, George McCranie IV, Steve Chapman, Jr., Duane Chapman, Ben Chapman and Hall Chapman. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
